Requirements:

Must be U.S. Citizen or provide a Certificate of Naturalization.
 

  • DegreeCertificate.
  • Education:  Graduate from Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technologists or operating room technicians.
  • Certification:  Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician.
  • Experience:  One year of experience within the last three (3) years working in a surgical setting of comparable size and complexity.as a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician after graduation.


Duties:

  • Plan for all aspects of the Operating Room (OR) to include knowing the schedule.
  • Ensure that all equipment is ready and available, notifying the surgeon if it is not  available.
  • Maintain routine supply items in cooperation with departmental supply officer. 
  • Maintain functionality of the surgical suite, instruments and equipment. 
  • Provide office automation support to their assigned clinical area. 
  • Make post-operative follow up calls to patients as necessary.
  • Perform the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery, and assisting with post-operative dressings.
  • Ensure surgical packs are cleaned and packed for sterilization after every procedure, to include restocking surgical supplies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment for the patient either by active participation in the cleaning of clinical spaces, operating rooms, and medical equipment, or by guiding other personnel in the environmental maintenance

Start date: 

  • As soon as possible pending Federal Security Clearance process completion (typically 4-6 weeks after initiation)


Schedule:

  • {The Operating Room Services Department is open twenty four (24) hours per day, 365 days a year. Services shall be provided Sunday through  Saturday, for either the day shift from 0645 until 1600; the evening shift from 1345 until 2345; or the night shift from 2045 until 0715. Weekend shifts are 0645 to 1915 and 1845 to 0745. Each shifts will include an uncompensated thirty (30) minute to sixty (60) minute lunch break, respectively. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of eighty (80) hours per two-week period.


Ability to commute:

  • Reliably transportation is required and expected for commuting to and from the work site.
