As we continue to expand our services, we are seeking a passionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Travel Medical Surgical team.

Position Overview: We are currently seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Hospice unit. A Hospice Registered Nurse provides compassionate and holistic care to patients with terminal illnesses, focusing on pain management, symptom control, and end-of-life support. Working in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, hospice RNs assess patients' physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, develop individualized care plans, and provide comfort and dignity to patients and their families during the end-of-life journey.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs, including pain assessment, symptom management, and psychosocial support.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans to address patients' pain and symptom management needs, utilizing a holistic approach that encompasses pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Administer medications as prescribed for pain management, symptom control, and comfort measures, ensuring adherence to medication schedules and monitoring for therapeutic responses and potential side effects.
  • Provide comfort measures, such as positioning, bathing, mouth care, and other palliative interventions, to enhance patients' comfort and quality of life in accordance with their preferences and cultural beliefs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, care interventions, medication administration, and communication in electronic medical records, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and hospice policies.
  • Provide ongoing support to families during the bereavement period, offering counseling, resources, and referrals to support groups or other community services as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
  • Current registered nurse (RN) license in District of Columbia.
  • Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing (CHPN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in hospice, palliative care, or oncology nursing preferred.
  • Strong assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily home-based care with occasional visits to hospice facilities or hospitals.
  • Flexible scheduling including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with potential for on-call responsibilities.
  • Exposure to emotionally challenging situations and end-of-life care experiences.
